Creating a New Drawing or Part Number

There are several ways to create a new Drawing Number or Part Number in RedAnt.

Option 1: Use the Customer's Drawing / Part Number

If the customer has supplied a Drawing or Part Number, use their reference exactly as provided, including any issue or revision number.

If no issue number is provided, enter a hyphen (-) in the Issue field.

Option 2: Auto-Generate a Drawing Number

If both the Drawing Number and Issue fields are left blank when creating a new quotation or job order, Redant will automatically generate a Drawing Number.

The generated number consists of:

  • A user-defined prefix
  • The next available register number

For example, if the company prefix is CW, a generated drawing number might be:

CW-2316

Issue:

-

This method is ideal where most quoted items are unique or differ slightly from previous jobs. Previous items can easily be located using the Description Search facility and then reused if required.

Option 3: Use an Existing Standard and Size

Where the customer does not provide a drawing number, use an existing company or industry standard together with the item size.

Examples

BS1768 bolt, 1/4" UNF thread × 6" longBS1768 1/4 UNF X 6

The item description could then be entered as:

1/4 X 6 Hex Bolt

Material information can be included in either the description or the Item Notes section.

Option 4: Copy an Existing Drawing

This is often the fastest method when creating a similar item.

  1. Select Register from the Main Menu.
  2. Search for and locate a similar drawing or part number.
  3. Select Copy Drawing from the bottom menu.
  4. Amend:
    • Drawing Number
    • Issue Number
    • Description
  5. Click Save.

Redant will ask whether you wish to copy the plans.

Select Yes and the new drawing will inherit the plans from the original drawing.

You can then modify the:

  • Process
  • Material
  • Subcontract
  • Miscellaneous

details as required.

Important: Changes made to plan details in the Register, Quotations, or Job Orders modules will be reflected across all modules. For this reason, it is often best practice to initially create and maintain drawings within the Register module.
