Error when creating holiday calendar entries

Error when creating holiday calendar entries

Symptoms

When creating or approving holiday absences in RedAnt, users may receive an error when RedAnt attempts to create the corresponding appointment in the shared Outlook holiday calendar.

The absence may be recorded in RedAnt, but the calendar entry is not created in the shared holiday calendar.

Cause

This issue can occur when the shared holiday calendar has been renamed within Outlook or Microsoft 365.

By default, many shared holiday calendars are initially created with the calendar's email address as the calendar name. Some organisations subsequently rename the calendar to a more user-friendly name, such as Company Holidays or Annual Leave Calendar.

RedAnt identifies the shared holiday calendar using the Calendar Name configured within RedAnt. If the calendar has been renamed in Outlook or Microsoft 365, but the corresponding Calendar Name in RedAnt has not been updated to match, RedAnt may be unable to locate the correct calendar and will generate an error when attempting to create holiday appointments.

Updating the Calendar Name field in RedAnt so that it exactly matches the current name of the shared Outlook calendar will resolve the issue.

Resolution

  1. Open Menu → Modules → Maintenance → Employees → Absences → Groups.
  2. Open the affected absence group.
  3. Locate the Calendar Name field.
  4. Verify that the value entered matches the current name of the shared holiday calendar in Outlook.
  5. If the calendar has been renamed, update the Calendar Name field accordingly.
  6. Save the changes.
  7. Retry creating or approving the holiday request.

Once the correct calendar name has been configured, RedAnt should be able to successfully create entries in the shared Outlook holiday calendar.

Example

Calendar renamed in Outlook

Company Holidays

If the calendar has been renamed to Company Holidays, the Calendar Name field in RedAnt must also be updated to Company Holidays.
